A River Town With a Long History

Stillwater calls itself the birthplace of Minnesota, since the 1848 convention that started the territory's path to statehood was held here. The town grew with the lumber trade on the St. Croix, and downtown still centers on Main Street, the 1931 Stillwater Lift Bridge and the Washington County Courthouse. Houses in the older parts of town run back well over a century, and the streets climb the hill above the river.

Older houses call for a different approach than a 2010s townhome:

• Wood trim, built-ins and original floors collect dust in the grooves. Standard Cleaning handles dusting and vacuuming throughout, and Deep Cleaning adds about an hour for detail work.
• Steep, narrow stairs and multiple levels are fine. Tell us in Special Instructions about pets, gates or anything else we should know before arrival.
• Unfinished cellars and garages are not included. A finished lower level can be added for $49.

A four-bedroom, two-bathroom house is $269 for Standard Cleaning, or $348 with the Deep upgrade, before sales tax.
